The Loft Cinema - Tucson, AZ (2015)
The Loft Cinema is a community-based movie theater, managed by a non-profit 501c.3 corporation. The Loft screens non-commercial, classic & artistic movies, and sponsors special events. Originally built as "The Showcase Cinema" in 1960, to the designs of Mid-Century Tucson architects Howard Peck & James M. Smith, The Loft now has three movie screens: the first in the large original theater; a second smaller screen in a second level “loft” style theater; and a third in an adjacent converted brake shop.
The Loft looks to expand on site, with a new lobby/entrance/concession space connecting the free-standing “brake-shop theater” with the original, and providing elevator access to the second floor. Three new screens will be added ~ including an open-air roof-top cinema that can double as an events center for receptions & celebrations. Administrative needs, including offices and conference/community meeting space, will be addressed as well.
