Irwin Residence - Tucson, Arizona (1985-86)
A two-story verandah house, with sleeping porches that wrap around three sides of the ground floor, recalling regional ranch houses. The structure blends with the surrounding desert landscape. With plenty of shade and south facing windows, it is naturally cool in the summer and warm in the winter, and includes a solar water heater mounted at the roof. Rain water run-off is directed by berms and swales to nearby mesquite trees.
1,400 s.f. net area.
